Opera is a famous Theater Art of Italy. It was started in 1600s. At the beginning there were elements such as singing and dancing. But, French was the first country who added the element of dancing to opera. As per Italian language, opera means "works" and in Latin it stands for the plural of labor. This means that there can be duet, trio, and group singing. It also uses several aspects of the spoken theater, like costume and backdrop.  Greeks were the first recognized theater artists particularly people from Athens. Their theater acts includes all the components like acting, dialogues, singing, scene, dancing, chorus and music. This artistic creation was trained by different civilizations inducing a couple of or all the elements. One among them was the opera. The western classical theater arts which involves conveyance through singing and dancing and not through dialogues, is known as Opera. Composition by Jacopo Peri, Dafne, was composed in 1597 and was the 1st recognized composition specifically implied for opera. Actually, it was inspired by Greek theater arts, but it no more exists. Euridice composition by Peri published in 1600s was the first memorialized composition which is accessible till this date. |

Opera was first started in Italy. As it started growing and spreading from one country to another. Cardinal Mazarin, a regent of King Louis XIV was the person who presented the first Opera named “La Finta Pazza” in the year 1645. From that time till date Opera has been a part of French tradition. This cheered King Louis XIV and he was the one behind the growth of opera in France. The father of French opera was Jean-Baptiste Lully; he demonstrated “Cadmus et Hermione” in the king’s court. After seeing that execution, the king’s involvement expanded still more. This advanced Lully to make “Tragedie En Musique”, also known as tragedies en musique, along with Philippe Quinault. It was the tragic story of Corneille and Racine. Lully was renowned for composing music for plays meant for court as well as a lot of additional theaters. Cadmus et Hermione was the 1st French opera of Lully in Paris.  This pair was also recognized for modifying the complex and elaborated Baroque plot. They created a five-act structure alternatively. Before the execution praises were sung for King Louis XIV this was inspired from Italy who sung allegorical prologue instead. It then commenced with an aria which was followed by recitative and a short aria which was elaborately modeled keeping the French taste in mind and was appraised several times. It then finished with divertissement. It was the most crucial component as it involved lots of singing, dancing, and lots of amusement which was the main attraction for the audience. In the middle of 18th century “Opera Comique” a different opera genre caught the fancy of the people in which dialogues and arias music was applied. The stage was set with lots of details and specialized effects called machinery in which Olivet did the choreography and Quinault wrote the phrases. |

In all the forms of Opera Theater Arts, Italian Opera holds its own place. It is one of the earliest known opera form. It has been inspired by Greek and Roman Theater Art. But still, it has inspired many countries including Europe by its innovative Opera form. A few says that the word opera has been derived from the Italian words “Opera in Musica” which means act in music. The evidence of the very 1st opera executed in Italy was at the marriage ceremony of Marie de Medici and Henry IV of France. The Italian opera had got three levels viz. the baroque, the romantic and the modern. Baroque period is the name of that period of Italian opera that developed in Italy in the first place of the 17th century. The voice utilized was absolutely high pitched along with instrumental music. This trend was known as monody and was built up by Giulio Caccini and Jacopo Peri. It was reflected in the opera Euridice that was established on the story of Eurydice and Orpheus. When there were no dialogues during the execution, there were songs with music. This type of opera inspired a lot of other writes, on of them was Claudio Monteverdi who composed La Favola D’Orfeo that had the monody manner. It was his beginning act and it is still famous with the audience today. Monteverdi worked hard on synchronizing instrumental music with the words and exhibited this attempt in Mantua, with vast choruses with almost 40 musical instruments that produced a genuinely good impression. He was named as the Maestro Da Cappela in Venice in the year 1613. |
