Arts have been discovered by man to express feelings. In the earlier days, he was using arts for communication, to convey their inner thoughts and a means to record events. The ancient caves; monuments and scripts preserved in the museums evidence to that truth. Art has accomplished such a peak that, at present it can be assorted into different categories and further it can have its own subcategories. Different regions and civilizations have different forms, which have a deep influence of the culture. On this basis, broad classifications of arts that can be made are visual arts, culinary arts, performing arts, executing arts or language arts.

 German theatre has contributed its own unique and diverse style towards Arts. It comprises a different mixture of music and drama. Initially Germany missed behind when England and Spain were acquiring in their own theater trends. The Germans were always involved in war and spiritual riots which deflected their tending from the area of arts. There was also a deficiency of suitable capital which could become the epicenter of such progress. The old stories had a very gothic look and were not brushed up sufficiency. But once the interest was modernized it became more of an ethnical interest which later on resulted in an academic interest with various universities allowing classes in the several field of arts. The theater was one place in Germany where people were free to convey and interchange their ideologies. In 1767 the first German national theater was accomplished and in the year 1890 Deutsches Buhner-Jahrbuch made it's launching. Currently, the “Three Category House” is the theater structure responsible to boost playing arts like opera, music, drama and dance. Every season, 5,300 productions are executed by this board and on an annual basis, a total of hundred and twenty thousand plays were performed. India is a mother country, which has given birth to various kinds of Theater Arts like Yakshagana, puppetry and dance. Yakshagana is a different type of play where it depicts religious stories along with the help of dialogue delivery, music, song and dance. A puppeteer used painted figures made out of deer or goatskin, generally, which are moved by the threads and chain bonded to them. Dances have players conveying a situation with facial gesture in synchronize with a singer telling the story along with music applying musical instruments such as veena and tabla. Since facial expressions play a critical function, eyes are being highlighted, because they're the fundamental in this case of theater art. “Yakshagana” is a Sanskritic language word for Celebration of the celestials. The theater art includes drama, song and dance. It fundamentally originated as a folk art. The actors generally lead a nomadic life, traveling from one village to some other with their luggage. They used to stay in temples at nighttime and adjusting their stage for the next day. Villagers gather the next day to watch this group of 15-20 male actors acting. Epics of Hindu mythology are enacted applying make-up and colorful dresses up. As no females are a part of this pack, the male dress up wearing female attire, too enacts womanly characters. The performing artists are required to execute throughout the day and some times throughout the nighttime also, for which they should need loads of staying power for the preceding of the play through the night. The mythological figures are known as “Kimpurushas”, lead actor called “Kattu-veshas” and the so-called villains are known as “Kiratas”. The audiences aren’t expected to pay anything for this entertainment; the actors are offered money with the temple funds for a living. |

East Javanese Kingdoms was the one which developed Theater Arts in Malaysia. Basically there are three types of Malaysian Theater Arts. They are Wayang Orang, Wayang Kulit and Wayang Golek. Wayang Orang is performed by the human actors, Wayang Kulit is a Shadow Puppetry show and Wayang Golek is a three dimensional puppetry show and also a classical court dance known as Karaton. All these were flourished independently in each kingdom.
A different name for Wayang Orang is Wayang Wong that implies human players executing live on stage in a melodious dancing drama. “Wong” or “Orang” signifies a man or a woman respectively. It was brought up in the Kingdom of King Lembu Amiluhur. His son Raden Panji Asmarabangun was a famous artist in himself. He instructed this art to all his relations. The storyline of the act centered on the Jenggala Kingdom and Hindu mythologies Mahabharata and Ramayana. A different form of Wayang Orang is Wayang Topeng or Wayang Gedog where the creative persons wear mask during the execution. Majapahit Kingdom was a different kingdom that acted critical role in the identification of Wayang wong as the King Hayam Wuruk was a performing artist of this art himself.

We can proudly tell that the Theater Arts is as early as the period of Ancient Greek. From that period to present, there are a lot of changes that has occurred in the theater stages. This has affected the actors to learn more things and it has given rise to various kinds of Acting. In olden Greece, dramas were set to mark a spiritual function in theaters. Here only esteemed men were permitted as at that time women and slaves were appeared down upon in the society. Theatres popularly recognized as amphitheatres housed a large round stage which was rounded three-fourth by audience. This is how a stage would be arranged in the Greek Era. Amphitheatre could accommodate an audience of 25,000 at one time which made it very hard to see. To get the better of this obstruction the players would be loud with grandiose voice and tremendous gestures and to be more noticeable they wore mask and symbolical dresses. High pitched chorus was used as an agency of cautioning of an approaching event or to advice co-actors. To improve the visibility and to establish a deception of fact to the plays they were held in daytime and a real landscape played as the screen background of the drama. |
